Buckthorne Oak Crossing
An existing pedestrian footpath crossing near Bentley Station was in need of an upgrade.
Waux 19mm GridEX® Solid Top GRP Grating was an ideal replacement material with a long design life.
Waux provided the GRP crossing panels along with preferred recommended fixings.

Bentley, East Hampshire
Rail Trackside
Buckthorne Oak is a pedestrian crossing point close to Bentley Station and was upgraded in August 2023.
Trains on this section of line often pass over the crossing so durability was a key consideration in the upgrade.
Timber substrate and anti-trespass panels were installed beneath the GRP crossing panels, in order to keep the same aesthetic as before. The new crossing materials were then installed by Network Rail site team, with the correct type of fixings for best performance and appearance.
Waux GridEX® Solid Top is well-suited for use as crossing points, as it has structural integrity and is completely built up of GRP, so does not rot. Timber core boards typically rot through the areas where fixings have penetrated the surface.
GridEX® Solid-Top GRP in 55mm thickness is also available for additional strength, as used at Eastfield Signalbox.
The upgraded crossing point at Buckthorne Oak was completed successfully and now offers a safer area for the public to cross. The long design life and anti-slip surface of GridEX® Solid Top GRP Panels will provide substantial benefits to local cyclists and walkers.
