Spernal Water Treatment Plant
Costain required a safe walkway system to access the controls of the ferric dosing bund being installed at Severn Trent Water’s sewage treatment plant in Redditch.
GRP is ideal for this kind of corrosive environment with harsh chemicals. The bund is also subject to water puddling in the base, but the elevated walkway ensures an easy way to get to the centre of the bund.
Surveys, drawings, fabrication and the install was all managed by Waux, resulting in a modular system installed in only 3 days.

Water Treatment
Waux were trusted to design, supply and install a structure to provide access to the bund at Spernal Water Treatment Plant.
Initially undertaking a site visit, Waux worked closely with Costain to create a solution to fit site measurements, saving hours of install time on site.
Following client drawing approval, a secondary site survey was arranged to check compatibility and interface between the different parts of the structure. This was a fairy complex build, as control valves needed to be accessible without the platform interfering with the existing pipework.
A bespoke system was then fabricated to size, incorporating the elements below:
- GRP staircase to provide access over the outer bund wall
- Elevated GRP walkway leading to the central plinth, avoiding water that sits due to the angled base
- Mini stepup onto central base
- Large GRP service platform to reach control valves
All the prefabricated units were then quickly reassembled and fixed on site by our trusted blue-card installers, ready for use within 3 days of delivery.
