Farnham, Surrey
Rail Trackside
The client at Farnham Station made the decision to convert a railway line that was no longer used, into an access walkway for service engineers to use.
The new walkway was needed as there was little space available to walk alongside the track which can be dangerous for trackside workers.
To provide a safe walking route, GRP was seen as the obvious solution due to its non-conductivity in close proximity to the live lines. Waux GridEX® GRP Walkways were chosen by the contractor due to its simple installation method.
The TrekRAIL® Modular GRP Guardrail system was added to one side of the GRP walkway. Formed from box section stanchions with a central cut-out, this style of guardrail is efficient to fit and does not require any fittings.

Several days, deliveries and collections later, the GRP depot walkway was successfully installed.
Depot staff, railway workers, technicians, drivers can all now walk the entire track section using a safe, highly visible route that will last for many years.
